Martin and Tom Crowley and Dan Smith have done it again. They have joined forces for another end-of-year Matching Challenge—and this time it’s bigger than ever before! Starting today, they will match donations of up to $1,000,000 to ten highly impactful charities until December 31.

Last year, Dan Smith started off with a campaign to match donations up to $175,000. This eventually grew to $500,000 in matching funds and a total donation volume of $1.7 million, thanks mainly to Martin and Tom Crowley joining the matching challenge after a successful year in Daily Fantasy Sports.

This year they decided to pool their money from the very beginning. Together with the logistical support and advice from Raising for Effective Giving, the trio set up a joint Matching Challenge for a whopping $1,000,000. “We all ended up having a good year and want to give back in a way that provided the most impact. To be able to positively impact lives, playing a game we love, is a dream come true for all of us”, said Martin Crowley about the massive amount this year.

This is how a matching challenge works: For every dollar people contribute as part of the campaign, the Crowley brothers and Dan Smith will give another dollar. They’ve picked the following ten high-impact charities for donors to choose from:

  • Against Malaria Foundation (AMF)
  • Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI)
  • Give Directly
  • Helen Keller International (Vitamin A Supplementation)
  • Good Food Institute (GFI)
  • Effective Altruism Funds: Animal Welfare
  • Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI)
  • Brooklyn Community Bail Fund
  • Massachusetts Bail Fund
  • Just City Memphis

“Aside from whether you believe humans are morally obligated to help others, even if you are concerned about your own self interests, there are strong reasons to donate. Studies show that donating to charity can increase happiness”, says Dan Smith, who views last year’s drive as one of his greatest accomplishments.
